This section will assist you with locating resources in San Diego County to help teens and young adults stay physically healthy, such as general medical services, reproductive health services, hospitals and emergency medical care services, and dental services.

Rady Children’s Hospital

Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego is a nonprofit, 551-bed pediatric-care facility dedicated to excellence in care, research and teaching:

  • We are the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric healthcare and the region’s only designated pediatric trauma center.
  • In affiliation with the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, we are the region’s teaching hospital for the next generation of pediatric physicians.
  • We are a major pediatric clinical research center, working in collaboration with world-renowned institutions, including UC San Diego and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Foster Club

Foster Club is dedicated to providing a peer support network for children and youth in foster care. Further, they believe that the experiences young people have in foster care place them in a position to effect change within the system, inform and motivate their peers, build public awareness and create public will for improved care for abused and neglected children. Foster Club is about providing youth a voice within the system that so heavily impacts their lives; Whether advocating on their own behalf, in concern for siblings or family members, or speaking out on behalf of their 400,000 peers currently in the system.

Southeast Mental Health Center

This facility provides mental health services by assisting adults with a Domestic Violence Safety Plan, Emergency and Crisis Mental Health Services, Mental Health Administration, Outpatient Mental Health Centers and San Diego County Domestic Violence Hotline.

County Medical Services (CMS)

A program that funds medical care for uninsured indigent adult county residents. While not a health insurance program, County Medical Services funds services through a network of community health centers, private physicians and hospitals.

Share the Care – San Diego County Department of Health Service Agency

The Dental Health Initiative/ Share the Care (DHI/STC) program is a public-private partnership between the County of San Diego and Human Services Agency, the San Diego County Dental and Dental Hygienists’ Societies, and the San Diego County Dental Health Coalition and is focused on optimizing oral health for the children of San Diego County.

STD Clinic- County of San Diego Health and Human Services

The County of San Diego has four STD Clinics. All clinics offer testing and treatment for most STDs, vaccines for hepatitis A and B, and HIV testing. All services offered on the basis of risk assessments, physical examinations, and/or laboratory test results.

Clinics DO NOT perform asymptomatic herpes testing, HPV testing, PAP smears, or provide birth control (other than condoms), treatment for general medicine/non-STD related issues, HIV treatment or pregnancy care.

A Helping Hand

A Helping Hand Counseling is comprised of licensed clinicians whose expertise is in brief-focused therapy. They will assist you in getting to the root of the problem. The goal is to help you to look at your past so that you may change your present and therefore enhance your future.

Freedom From Exploitation

Freedom From Exploitation is a not-for-profit agency helping those who have been exploited through the sex industry as prostitutes, stripping, escorts and in Human Trafficking. Freedom From Exploitation was founded in 2002 in the effort to educate, empower and help reintegrate those who have suffered the effects of the sex industry.

EatFresh

EatFresh is an online resource for CalFresh (SNAP, or food stamps) eligible individuals and families; though this website is a great resource for anyone who wants to improve their health. EatFresh’s goals are 1) to encourage cooking at home with fresh foods and minimally non perishables, 2) to show users that healthy change happens even though barriers exist, 3) to better understand the link between lifestyle/diet choices with the prevention of chronic diseases.

City Heights Farmer’s Market

A true multi-cultural urban farmers market in the heart of east San Diego City. Fresh fruits and vegetables, hot food vendors, arts and crafts, health programs, live entertainment, children’s activities and more (Saturdays 9am-1pm).
