Foster Youth Initiative – SDSU Consensus
The Foster Youth Initiative helps foster youth attain college degrees and prepare to become successful adults. Students enroll in Social Work 120: Introduction to Social Work at SDSU and upon completion receive three college and three high school credits. Students are then assisted throughout their senior years in researching colleges, applying for scholarships and financial aid, and emancipating from the foster care system successfully.

Change a Life Foundation’s Scholarship
Change a Life Foundation’s Scholarship Program is designed to bridge the financial gap for college-bound students. Scholarships assist economically disadvantaged students who excel academically to attend the university or college of their choice. Scholarships are awarded up to $5,000 for unmet university expenses in the areas of tuition, housing, meal plan, books, and health insurance.

Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD)
Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) improve the lives of people who affected by ADHD through education, advocacy, and support. CHADD is in the forefront in creating and implementing programs and services in response to the needs of adults and families affected by ADHD.

Cuyamaca College
Since 1978, Cuyamaca College has provided a solid education to students, whether they’re beginning their university degree at Cuyamaca, returning to school to launch a career or to acquire new skills or enrolling in an innovative occupational program. With its vision of “Learning for the Future,” Cuyamaca College offers a wide scope of challenging courses, from drafting technology and child development to paralegal training, from computer and information science or ornamental horticulture to automotive technology. With 81 degree programs and 66 certificates offered at Cuyamaca College, learning opportunities abound under the tutelage of highly-qualified, dynamic instructors imbued with a love of teaching.

Urban Beats
Urban Beats is an innovative artistic expression program for Transitional Age Youth (TAY). Through
creating and delivering artistic productions and TAY-focused social media messaging, Urban Beats aims to enhance self-sufficiency and increase TAY engagement in behavioral health treatment. Urban Beats utilizes strengths identification and artistic self-expression to fight the stigma related to mental illness and promote youth self-empowerment and improve wellness.

California Conservation Corps.
The CCC is a state department that puts young people and the environment together for the benefit of both. Corpsmembers are young men and women between the ages of 18-25 (and veterans to age 29) who sign up for a challenging year of service to California, working to improve the state’s natural resources and communities. Young people join from counties statewide. As of 2015, the top five counties from which young people have joined: Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego, Sacramento, & Fresno # of corpsmember positions in 2015- 16: 1587 serving more than 3,000 young people annually.

Love is Respect
This website is basically dating: 101. It explores what dating looks like, ways to respect your partner’s needs, and how to communicate what you want. It also deals with dating abuse, ‘which happens when one partner exerts power and control over the other’. It has tips to help you learn how to prevent, recognize and escape unhealthy relationships (online and off), and even offers legal assistance from the lawyer volunteer program and a live peer chat line.

Promises2Kids
Promises2Kids annually provides over 3,300 current and former foster youth in San Diego County with the tools, opportunities, and guidance they need to address the circumstances that brought them into foster care, overcome the difficulties of their past, and grow into healthy, happy and successful adults. Promises2Kids supports these children through our four core programs: Polinsky Children’s Center, Camp Connect, Guardian Scholars and Foster Funds.
